What I really like about these pens besides the fact that look great on dark colored papers due to the fact that they are opaque, is that some of them are metallic inks so they look different depending on what lighting they are viewed under
Porter Smells Her First FlowerI started painting this a few weeks after we moved to Idaho and it took me about 3 months from to start to finish but I only worked on it a few hours at a time about 2 times a week. This is my friend Emily's daughter and I choose to paint this for her cuz I knew Porter before she was even born! Emily was working in the artisan bakery with me when she was still 9 months pregnant with Porter and she helped us out a lot when we were moving to Idaho so when she showed me this photo I knew I had to paint it.
The Standard- A Sappi Guide to Designing for Print: Tips, Techniques and Methods for Achieving Optimum Printing ResultsGot this as a free sample from Sappi paper but this awesome little booklet is sitting at textbook status because of how much information it contains There are a bunch of little booklets within the book for each chapter to show some samples of binding. There is also this awesome spread inside showing off different binding materials Each little booklet within the book has so much good information that is very well presented. I am very happy that I got this. I have book 4 & 6 and book 3 is on its way in the mail! I'll post pictures of it when it shows up.
I missed everyone on the 4th of July but Derek and I got to celebrate together and so I made dinner. I'm starting to get really good at grilling so I grilled up some steaks and then caramelized some red onions and crimini mushrooms and topped the steaks with them and melted mozzarella cheese. I also made butter-top rolls, spicy steak fries, broccoli cheese casserole, and caesar salad. We drove to see the fireworks at the fairgrounds but they were disappointing since they only shot off one firework at a time and we ended up leaving before they were over.
I drew these sketches for the Museum of Clean in Pocatello because they wanted some mural work done in the museum. There is a Noah's Ark exhibit for younger children there and they wanted to liven it up with some paintings of animals cleaning so here are some of the ideas that I came up with: Birds hanging up laundry, a buck using its antlers to dry clothesA kangaroo using its pouch to pick up trashGiraffe dusting the ceiling, monkeys and elephant cleaning windowsRats scrubbing the toiletSnake washing dishes, rabbit using hedgehogs and octopus to scrub the floorFox dusting, squirrels sweeping dirt under the rug, a turtle carrying dishesA squirrel using a turtle's tummy as a washboardJames' Birthday PresentMy younger brother loves Captain America so I am currently working on completing this three-panel oil painting for him. Sorry it's so late! It is almost finished though and I am planning on having this piece finished within the next few days Noah's Birthday PresentMy nephew also likes Captain America and the other Marvel characters so this is a set of minimalistic paintings that I made for him using watercolors Dad's Fathers' Day GiftThis picture has a funny story behind it that my family likes to tell at reunions and holidays so I thought that I would turn it into an oil painting for my Dad's B-day/Father's Day gift. It is still a work in progress and is one of the harder pieces I have been working on so I did not get it finished on time for Father's Day but it will be finished soon. Derek's Dad's Father's Day GiftMy boyfriend's dad is really into fly fishing and I recently had a job interview at a place call The Grape Van Gogh which is a paint and sip art class studio. Either way my test for the interview was that I had one hour to complete a painting from off the wall of paintings that are done in the class. This was the painting I ended up having to do: Mom's Mother's Day GiftAlmost done... work in progress.
This painting was supposed to be a Mother's Day present for my mom but it took a lot longer than I had planned on. First I started by combining my two favorite pictures from my birthday and then I drew the image on to a primed board using a charcoal pencil Next I did that under-painting thing where I used phthalo blue and alizerine crimson to establish my lights/darks, and warms/cools It is still not quiet all the way finished yet but I hope to get it done over the next few days. Here is the painting with some color built on top of the under-painting.
